Colombo mobster Guerra denied bail in murder and pizzeria extortion case

August 31st 2011 | Posted by UnderBoss

Reputed Colombo crime family mobster Francis “BF” Guerra was denied bail by a Brooklyn judge. Guerra has been indicted in two mafia hits and is now accused of extorting a local pizzeria. Last month Guerra was indicted for the murders of Michael DeVine and Joseph Scopo. Guerra was hoping to be released on a $2 million dollar bail package.

The Colombo gangster is accused of shaking down Gene Lombardo who owns The Square pizzeria which is a rival to L&B Spumoni Garden’s pizzeria which is owned by Guerra’s in-laws. L&B Spumoni Garden’s is considered by many as having one of the best slices of pizza in the city and has accused Lombardi of stealing their pizza recipe. Prosecutors claim that last year Guerra decided to shakedown Lombardo.

In court on Monday Magistrate Cheryl Pollak ruled that Guerra would be denied bail and remain in jail. Pollak said that federal prosecutors convinced her that Guerra was a violent criminal and a danger to the community. The Colombo family continues to be dismantled from the top down under attack by the feds and many wonder how much longer the family can maintain their faltering power base.
