FBI offers 10K for information on missing Chicago Mobster Anthony Zizzo

Once a high ranking member in the Chicago Mafia also known as “The Outfit” mobster Anthony Zizzo disappeared five years ago. On August 31, 2006 Zizzo said goodbye to his wife and left his Westmont townhouse on is way to an alleged business meeting and he was never heard from again. Zizzo standing only 5 feet 3 inches tall was known by nickname “Little Tony” but his 200 pounds made him a little more noticeable. Many believe that Zizzo’s fell victim to a mafia hit and his body was disposed of in a way in which it would never be found.

“Anthony Zizzo”

But now the feds are floating the idea that maybe Zizzo may have disappeared on purpose. It is not uncommon to see mobsters under investigation or fearing they may face criminal charges to go on the lam and disappear. There is the case of Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger who was on the run for almost 15 years and more recently two defendants in the “Family Secrets” case against the Chicago mob Frank Schweigh and Joey Lombardo disappeared before they could be charged. Now for the first time in the Anthony Zizzo case the feds are offering a $10,000 reward for information on the whereabouts of Little Tony.

Credit Card information shows that on the day of his disappearance purchased gasoline before heading to Melrose Park restaurant where he was last seen alive say investigators. A couple of restaurant employees said that Zizzo arrived at the location but had never made it into the restaurant but there were no signs of foul play. Zizzo’s wife filed a missing person’s report and not long after Zizzo’s car was found in the parking lot of the restaurant. Little Tony vanished just before the Family Secrets mob trial was set to begin but conspicuously was not charged in the case. But some believe that Zizzo may have fled fearing that his Chicago mafia bosses may have thought he was a snitch.

But information obtained from a Outfit informant claims that Zizzo had disputes with Michael “The Large Guy” Sarno a top captain in the Chicago mob. The informant said that tensions between Zizzo and Sarno had peaked around the same time that Zizzo disappeared. Sarno is waiting to be sentenced for a unrelated mob bombing case and denies having any knowledge or involvement in Little Tony’s disappearance. FBI Chicago Special Agent Ross Rice says that the bureau has to consider all possibilities. Rice said “Whether he has gone on the lam so to speak and hiding out or whether he met with foul play, someone out there knows what happened to him”.

Since the beginning of the Chicao Mafia or Outfit there have been over 1100 known gangland hits. On most occasions mob victims are eventually found even if the killing remains unsolved. Sadly Zizzo’s wife will never know what happened to her husband as she passed away last month five years after reporting him missing.
