Former acting Genovese family boss Arthur Nigro and Geas brothers sentenced to life

Arthur “Artie” Nigro the former acting boss of the Genovese crime family and two associates were sentenced to life in prison in Manhattan federal court on Monday. Nigro and mob associates Fotio Geas and Ty Geas were convicted in April for charges of loan sharking , racketeering, extortion, and murder. The trio were convicted of the high profile mafia murder of Genovese crime family captain Adolfo Bruno back in 2003.

According to authorities Nigro rose through the ranks of the Genovese crime family all way to the position of acting boss in early 2000′s and personally controlled family operations in Springfield , Mass. and the Bronx. Nigro allegedly ordered the hit on Bruno so he could increase his power with in the Genovese family and to punish Bruno for talking to the feds. The hit man used to perform the task was enlisted by Ty and Fotios Geas. The Geas brothers were also convicted of the 2003 murder of Gary Westerman because they suspected that he was cooperating with the State Police in Massachusetts. The three defendants were all also convicted of killing Louis Santos who they also feared was cooperating with authorities.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said the catalog of lethal and vicious crimes committed by these defendants is a stark reminder of the lengths that the mafia will go to protect their turf and exact revenge. He also said with today’s sentences these men are out of the violent and ugly business of the Mafia for life.
