Reputed Chicago Mafia boss Sarno could take big fall

October 25th 2011 | Posted by UnderBoss

Reputed Cicero mob boss Michael “The Large Guy” Sarno could be in for a lengthy jail term if federal prosecutors have their way. Prosecutors are asking a federal judge to give Sarno the maximum sentence of 25 years for his crimes and have provided a detailed look into his ties to organized crime in new court filings. Sarno reputedly controlled the Chicago Mafia known as “the outfit” interests in Cicero since 2006 when he took over after mobster Anthony Zizzo disappeared. Sarno was convicted back in December for illegal gambling and racketeering conspiracy and is now set to be sentenced Friday in Chicago. This is the third conviction of Sarno for mob crimes and this one could put him behind bars until he hits his 70′s.

“Michael Sarno”

Prosecutors describe Sarno as a career criminal who began working with the Chicago mafia in 1975. Prosecutors also say its obvious he doesn’t care about the law and his interest today still likes in taking what he wants for not only himself but other organized crime members. Sarno was convicted along with four other men for what prosecutors called a slew of crimes which included a burglary ring targeting jewelry stores and bombing of a Berwyn company in competition with a mob controlled video poker company.

Sarno could often been seen with close friend Salvatore Cataudella and were dubbed “Mutt and Jeff”. The pair were referred to by the nickname by Chicago mob boss James Marcello and his half brother Michael Marcello during a secretly recorded conversation in 2003.
