Rumors circulate around New England mob captain DeLuca’s disappearance

The question that has been in the minds of New England mobsters , law enforcement officials, and those who follow New England organized crime is where’s Bobby ? Last week indictments were released for four New England mobsters and associates which included reputed mob captain Edward Lato and reputed mob soldier Alfred “Chippy” Scivola Jr but there was no mention of Robert “Bobby” DeLuca. Many close to the New England organized crime scene are now wondering if DeLuca may be cooperating with the feds.

Robert “Bobby” DeLuca

To add fuel to the DeLuca theory papers filed in U.S. District Court prosecutors noted that they had “made members” of the New England La Cosa Nostra cooperating with them in their investigation and they will be relying on them for the prosecution of Lato and Scivola. Prosecutors say these witnesses will testify about secret mafia initiations in which made men take blood oaths of loyalty and the mafia code of silence known as omerta , and that part of this oath requires mobsters to engage in criminal acts including murder when called upon by ranking members of the family. Some now believe that one of these made members talked about in these court documents may be Bobby DeLuca.

An expert in mob initiations that were infiltrated DeLuca was one of several mobsters which included then Patriarca Crime Family boss Raymond “Junior” Patriarca whom the feds captured on tape holding a mob induction ceremony in 1989. At that mob initiation DeLuca officially became a member of the Patriarca family of New England. This marked the first time that the feds had ever captured a mafia induction on tape and it has since been played at countless mob trials as proof that the mafia does indeed exist. DeLuca would go on to rise through the ranks of the Patriarca crime family to become a powerful captain.

It would be somewhat ironic if DeLuca is now a cooperating witness for the feds because 10 years ago he cast that same accusation against fellow mobster Anthony “The Saint” St. Laurent. This infuriated St. Laurent to the point that he solicited a man to kill DeLuca but the hit never went down as St Laurent was arrested for orchestrating the murder-for-hire plot and was recently sentenced to seven years in prison for it. But there is no sign of DeLuca , his wife Gina , or their two kids in North Providence. In 2009 Gina DeLuca purchased a house in North Providence and less then two months ago the house was placed on the market for sale with all the furniture being cleared out.

U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island Peter F.Neronha was asked but refused to identify DeLuca or any one else as government witnesses. Questions about DeLuca cooperating in a federal investigation , has he joined the federal witness protection program , and more were also asked to state police Supt. Steven G. O’Donnell a long time mob investigator and Jim Martin a spokesman for Neronha but both men would only offer “No Comment”. If DeLuca has flipped and is in line to cooperate it will be a severe blow to the New England Mafia.
